NATA Review
This is an excellent though retrospective study with highly important results. In patients with a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, multivariate analysis showed that intraoperative autotransfusion is a significant, independent and strong predictor of lower mortality, compared to patients who received a higher proportion of banked blood transfusion. In addition, this study could not find any advantage of a more liberal transfusion of FFP in these patients.
