The roles of P-selectin in cancer cachexia

Cancer cachexia is a systemic inflammation disorder associated with muscle wasting. P-selectin is a cell adhesion molecule that can be released from activated endothelial cells and platelets. It has been noted that P-selectin expression is elevated in cancer patients with cachexia. It may play a role in the development of cancer cachexia by promoting inflammation, muscle atrophy, and blood hypercoagulation. On the other hand, P-selectin inhibitors may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of cancer cachexia.
